Update 27.08.10

This week we were thrilled to welcome ex-MasterChef contestant Joanne Zalm to the Planet Cake kitchen. After a great experience here earlier in the year (those of you who followed the show- and hey who didn't?- might remember the children's party special) Joanne has returned for some one on one work experience with our very own Adam. As always it's a pleasure to recruit yet another to the oh-so-addictive world of cake decorating!

This week also saw us finishing up our Novelty Marathon after one huge month. It's been a tiring but very rewarding process for everyone involved and we would like to thank all of you who took part. Your work is just amazing and believe me when I say that you guys inspire us as much as we do you. We can't wait to see the heights to which you take your new skills!

Our first ever Sex & the City Cupcakes workshop

As I strolled by the artist's this afternoon I was absolutely gobsmacked by Anna Maria's piping on a wedding cake for this weekend and just wanted to finish up by sharing it with you all. Wishing you all a fabulous weekend, see you all same time, same place, next week. X

Sneak peak...

The guys have been working hard on a design for our new Specialty workshop and since we're all big kids here we thought this one was perfect! Tell us what you think.

Planet Cake do Australia

Our staff have been busy jetting all over the country this month and I am delighted to share some of the amazing talent we've been witness to with you.

First up, we had our final workshop for the year in Perth -don't worry if you missed out we will be back in 2011 (unfortunately it gets a little too hot in our Perth venue during the summer months and there's nothing worse than runny, melty, sticky chocolate cake all over the place!)

Running a course for the first time is always a little bit nerve wracking, especially when we're doing it away from our Sydney headquarters. This month we ran a brand new workshop in Melbourne, and, I am pleased as punch to report, to great success. Anna Maria held our first Basics 107 Vase Cakeand all of the cakes were amazing. it's always such a treat to see the way each student adds their own personal spin on our designs and really makes it their own.

Not to be outdone here in Sydney, we held the Novelty Panda Workshop...P.S. Just wait 'till you see the Realistic Dogs from today's class!

Get ready...True Blood is about to hit Planet Cake...

Happy Friday 13th

Things here at PC aren't always so sweet and light
And sometimes in the darkest night
Our cakes are wont to give an awful fright
To passers by of our sugary lair
Come take a look inside, I dare,
Take a gulp, don't be scared.
For today is Friday Thirteen
So here's some cakes to make you screeeeeeeeeeeeam!!!!!

Happy Friday 13th from Planet Cake!

I'm a Little Teapot

Even more eerie than our Friday 13th cakes is just how realistic these McDonalds and Teapot cakes are...a burger and fries made from cake, now that's what I call a Happy Meal!

LOVING the dormouse in this teapot!

Basics 107 Sneak Peek

We've been busy updating our courses thanks to all the feedback we've received this year, and I thought I would give you all a sneak peek at the new Basics 107 cake designed by Antony. Absolutely stunning.

Planet Cake weekly update 06.08.10

Well what a week, after just a two week hiatus I have returned to almost too much fabulousness to handle! As always at Planet Cake, when it rains it pours and so really we shouldn't have been surprised when we were inundated with amazing cake orders the very same week we began Novelty marathon in Syndey aswell as having Anna Maria in Brisvegas...phew. But never fear, this week Margie and Adam powered through with a little help from Jasmine and of course Emma, who on seeing the guys up to their neck in cake, rolled up her sleeves and headed into the kitchen to get her ganache on...you go girl! I love this pic because I think it really sums up the guys here, always willing to jump in and help out, even if it means getting a little dirty.

Just another day in the kitchen

Unless you've been living under a rock, one could hardly fail to notice the i-Phone 4 phenomenon that has swept the country in the last couple weeks. PC jumped on board the bandwagon and created this unbelievable cake for Telstra last week, in record time after receiving a last minute request. And yep, that IS a 1m ruler next to it, just to give you an idea of the size of this thing!

...And not to mention these awesome creations from the week, I have to admit the crab is absolutely my personal favourite for the week.

Now you're probably pretty sick of me telling you how fabulous we are all the time, so it is with great pleasure that I let two of our recent students do the talking for me. Caroline Roessier who writes for Notebook Magazine gave us a great write up on her time here with Jessica and Paris on her blog:

...while I came in this morning to find this lovely email from one of yesteraday's students:

"Hello all, wanted to say thanks for another great day today. The handbag was really good fun to make and I'll definately practice this one a little more, it's bound to be a hit with my friends and family..."
