Planet Cake in Business Baking

That's a Wrap!

As we sprint towards the finish-line of our Basics Marathon, I thought I would give you all a quick peek at what the gals have been up to this week. Basics 107 tackles The Wrap cake, is deceptively simple looking but notoriously difficult to pull off. Many of these students have been working thier way tirelessly through the series, well done guys you're nearly there...

Planet Cake Update June 17 2010

It's here at last...The Planet Cake Course Waiting List!!! We know it's been a long time in the works, but we now have an official online waiting list for booked out courses. If your desired course is full just click "Add me to the waiting list for this course" (located just above the course dates on the workshop homepage) and fill out your details to be contacted if a space becomes available.

Those of you who you follow us regularly will know that over the past three years we have helped Larry and Kylie at Channel 7's Morning Show celebrate several landmark events, and this week Margie and Adam created this cake to celebrate their 3rd Birthday. Just love the Funky Figurines Margies, they're getting cooler every year.

Also celebrating this week was Sydney's Quay Restaurant who were listed No. 27 among the world's 50 Best Restaurants. Congratulations guys on contributing to the amazing food for which Sydney is rapidly gaining an enviable reputation.

Planet Cake Update 10.06.10

One of the things I love about Sydney is that, not only does the sun shine even in the depths of winter (could today be any more pefect?) but, on any given night there is guaranteed to be at least one fabulous party in full swing. Last week, Kings Cross phenomena, The Piano Room celebrated it's second year of success with a little help from Aussie legend and Grinspoon front man Phil Jamieson, and of course: Yours Truly. Margie created this baby-grand from choccie mud cake complete with gloss finish; and by the looks of these pics they had as much fun eating it as we did making it:

While we're on celebrations, we also created this cake for the team at Dynamic Magazine this week, who were kind enough to thank us officially on thier twitter site. It was absolutely our pleasure guys, congratulations!

As we head into the winter months we find that our focus tends to shift from gorgeous, classic-style wedding cakes into our quirkier novelty cakes. Anyone who has grown up in Oz from the 1960's onwards will need no further introduction to this classic character who we recreated for Playschool legend Benita:

With Margie back in the studio after an extended period working on our upcoming book, it's turning into Funky Town once again as her legendary Funky Figurines are popping up around the place again.

Winter time is heating up here once again at PC as we begin our famous Basic Marathon (don't worry I'm talking about the cake not the exercise type!). Freshly returned from her European tour, Jess has been teaching 101, 102 and 103 back to back this week to a whole new bunch of unuspecting victims to the oh-so-addictive world of cake decorating.

Basics 101 - Basic round exploding star cake

Basics 102 - Square present with figurine

Basics 103 - 2 tier Magnolia cakes

Planet Cake Update - Week Ending 4th June 2010

Last week Anna-Maria taught the second Advanced Piping workshop for the year. This is our last specialty course for a while as we head into June's Basic Marathon. Once again this course produced some absolutely gorgeous cakes, well done guys! This was the last piping course for 2010, but if you're interested in learning Anna-Maria's tricks and techniques, never fear this workshop will certainly be returning in 2011.

With the cylconic weather predicted here in Sydney, Margie prepared by creating this super-cute Noah's Ark... Hmm, come to think of it sailing away in a chocolate cake boat doesn't sound too bad at all....
