Planet Cake Interstate Update

This week we have certainly lived up to the “Planet” in Planet Cake with our crew once again zipping all over the country. With world domination firmly in our sights, cue evil laugh…. we began with Melbourne as I mentioned last week.
I would like to extend a big thank you to all the warm wishes we have received from our Melbourne students, and trust us the pleasure was ALL ours! We don’t know where you’ve all been hiding but we’re glad you’re out! Fran, Rouvelee and Jess encountered some truly talented students in Melbourne once again and we can barely contain our excitement about returning next year. On that note be sure to watch this space regarding venues, things are only going to get more exciting.

Those of you who have attended our Christmas charity drives or are familiar with the , charities we sponsor will know that we always try to do our bit at Planet Cake, and this year Paris joined forces with the Baking Industry Association to host a Pink Ribbon Morning Tea at the Bread House in Brisbane. All over the country, annual Pink Ribbon events are held to help raise funds and awareness for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, and PC were proud to help such a valuable charity this year. Jessica and Paris donned their pink and gave a knock out demo, have a look at this little-something Jess LITERALLY just whipped up

We would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who attended the event, it was really special for us to meet all of you and we hope to see you all again VERY soon, when we head up next month. It seems like only yesterday we announced our Brisbane school, and now it’s only a matter of weeks before we’ll be there. It’s been a long time in the making, and we can’t wait to get up there and check out all the talent at last. Until then here’s a sneak peak inside the Bread House where we will be holding our workshops.

Be sure to stay tuned for all the latest Sydney news here on the one and only Planet Cake...

Cakes, Cakes...oh and more Cakes!

What exactly is the collective noun for cakes? During my research this week I have come across an “obsessive” of collective nouns (yes there is a collective noun for collective nouns) and not one of them concerning cake! While you can have a hand of banana (cake?) a batch of bread and a gluttony of chocolate it seems that no one has yet coined one for our namesake. One explanation I came across suggested that cake has never had a chance to gather into a group large enough to warrant one at all! Call it what you will, but this week I present to you a (Planet) ‘Cake-ophany’ of cakes!

We have been busy, busy, busy here at Planet and it’s beginning to feel a little like Santa’s Workshop with many busy hands and the smell of sugar thick in the air…ah another tough day at the office.

Now for some reason, I’ve been humming John Paul Young’s classic signature hit all week, hmmm I wonder why that could be?!

While love is definitely in the air here in Sydney, we would like to pay tribute to the Spice Girls in Melbourne with some serious Girl Power happening as our Jessica joins forces with Fran and Rouvelee on our third Melbourne trip this year. Those of you lucky enough to have nabbed a place in our October workshops are in for a huge treat over the coming days.

Meanwhile after recovering from a hilarious appearance on Saturday Disney’s Disaster Chef the guys were up to their usual tricks, appearing all over the city, with a book signing at Kinokuniya and Antony leaving a lasting impression on our Capital City at Hotel Realm’s Wedding Gala, while Anna Maria and Vivien held court here with the fabulous Shoe Box and Stiletto Workshop. It was a fabulous weekend, a huge congratulations to everyone involved…watch out Jimmy Choo!

I remember once being told, “have a good experience you tell one person, have a bad one and you tell ten”. This is something that has always stuck in my mind as we are often quick with criticism rather than compliments. Which is why I would like to end by sharing with you some incredibly kind words from a valued client of ours. This is the kind of thing that not only brings you the warm fuzzies but reminds us all of just how much we love living here on Planet Cake.

“I would just like to send you all a great big thank you for my daughters Christening cake. As expected it stole the show and our guests could not stop gushing all through the party.
We have ordered cakes from you in the past, so we knew what to expect, however every time we look back at the photos we can’t help but smile knowing that once again we have made the right decision dealing with Planet Cake.
Since our first encounter with you guys back in 2003, Planet Cake have become more and more popular with celebrities and big name companies, however you have not lost sight of the little people (us) and still care about what is important to all of your clients.
Thank you once again.
We look forward to the next time we need Planet Cake”

Craig & Cassandra Poulter

So now I put to our fascination of Planet followers to coin a new collective for cakes. Join our hamper of helpers and post your suggestions. I can’t wait to hear what you come up with!

Next week, all the goss from Melbourne, but until then happiness, light and as always cake.

Hi Guys,

For those of your are unaware Sydney is currently in the grips of foodie fever as the Sydney International Food Festival hots up this week. All around our great city the best of the best in the industry are showcasing their talent and PC is no exception. Paris will be giving an author talk this Saturday 12pm accompanied by a cupcake demonstration with Handi at Kinokuniya Bookshop.

So if you’re in town head on in to meet the guys and not to mention taste some of our delicious vanilla cupcakes (all in the name of the food festival of course!)

With the party season upon us, it’s been pretty crazy in here (yes more than usual!) and the guys have been hard at work to create some amazing special event cakes recently.

The gliteratti were out in full force at the very glamorous Tesutti Fashion Awards which Planet Cake were delighted to help celebrate recently

Followed by this amazing 1920’s inspired Madhatter which we created specially for Stephanie Rice’s gangster-themed 21st birthday party.

In keeping with the party theme, here are a few more standouts from this month…hmmm could be a bit of a theme emerging here…

This stunning creation for a lucky fashionista went down an absolute treat, with one guest even mistaking it for the real deal!

For anyone who missed Handi’s flirt with fame on the wedding special of Masterchef (shame on you) never fear, as you can catch him this Saturday morning at 8.10 on Saturday Disney, Channel 7 taking part in a whole different style of competition!

Another HUGE week coming up with launches, demonstrations, Melbourne courses, and most importantly of course….cakes, cakes and more cakes! There are some seen-to-be-believed creations coming up this week, so watch this space.

Until next week

Hi Guys,

I know, I know we’ve been a little slack with our Melbourne blog of late, but to all our friends in the Garden State I promise we haven’t forgotten you!

Last month Paris our favourite Melbourne gals Fran and Rouvelee at the Royal Melbourne Show. Not only were we sponsors and exhibitors this year but Fran walked away with 3rd place for her beautiful Madhatter. The day was a HUGE success and we were just blown away by the support of all our Melbourne friends. The guys worked unbelievably hard but it was worth every second and we can’t wait to come back next year!

And now the news you have all been waiting for…drum roll please…..our Melbourne and Brisbane 2010 class dates are now online! In the usual Planet Cake style things are only going to get bigger and better and we have introduced a bigger selection and more of them! Be sure to get in early for all February classes as they’re sure to book our quickly. In Brisbane we have secured a brand new venue, The Bread House in Spring Hill and we can’t wait to head north and check out all the talent in Brissie.

Next week will see our last trip to Melbourne for the year, where Fran will be joined by Jessica for the first time. All those of you already booked in for October are in for an absolute treat!

Hi All,

Yesterday while standing in the Post Office I was hit squarely in the forehead with the realisation that we are indeed heading into the silly season as I found myself surrounded by Christmas cards! Has it really been almost a year since our last taste of Chrissie pudding and trifle?! I really should have been more aware as things are getting delightfully crazy here at Planet Cake as the party season hots up with lots of exciting events on the horizon.

In the last week we helped the team from Dry July celebrate their $1.26 million raised this year:

Here are some other creations from this week which have made some beautiful brides and lucky little ones very happy:

In other exciting news, it is October at last which means we are only weeks away from our final appearance in Melbourne for the year! After the success of the Melbourne Show last month, we can’t wait to get back down there and check out the new talent with Basics 101, 102, 103 the one and only Madhatter course as well as Sugar Flowers and Bride and Groom Figurines….phew. For those of you who missed out this year, never fear we are in the final stages of confirming our 2010 dates which will be up on the website and open for enrolment very soon!! Be sure to join us on twitter to be the first in the know with all course info.

Wishing you all a fabulous long weekend, I know I will be cosying up somewhere warm with a nice hot choccie (and some cake of course) and working on that Christmas wish list!
