Planet Cake Update 10.06.10

One of the things I love about Sydney is that, not only does the sun shine even in the depths of winter (could today be any more pefect?) but, on any given night there is guaranteed to be at least one fabulous party in full swing. Last week, Kings Cross phenomena, The Piano Room celebrated it's second year of success with a little help from Aussie legend and Grinspoon front man Phil Jamieson, and of course: Yours Truly. Margie created this baby-grand from choccie mud cake complete with gloss finish; and by the looks of these pics they had as much fun eating it as we did making it:

While we're on celebrations, we also created this cake for the team at Dynamic Magazine this week, who were kind enough to thank us officially on thier twitter site. It was absolutely our pleasure guys, congratulations!

As we head into the winter months we find that our focus tends to shift from gorgeous, classic-style wedding cakes into our quirkier novelty cakes. Anyone who has grown up in Oz from the 1960's onwards will need no further introduction to this classic character who we recreated for Playschool legend Benita:

With Margie back in the studio after an extended period working on our upcoming book, it's turning into Funky Town once again as her legendary Funky Figurines are popping up around the place again.

Winter time is heating up here once again at PC as we begin our famous Basic Marathon (don't worry I'm talking about the cake not the exercise type!). Freshly returned from her European tour, Jess has been teaching 101, 102 and 103 back to back this week to a whole new bunch of unuspecting victims to the oh-so-addictive world of cake decorating.

Basics 101 - Basic round exploding star cake

Basics 102 - Square present with figurine

Basics 103 - 2 tier Magnolia cakes
