Hi Guys,

For those of your are unaware Sydney is currently in the grips of foodie fever as the Sydney International Food Festival hots up this week. All around our great city the best of the best in the industry are showcasing their talent and PC is no exception. Paris will be giving an author talk this Saturday 12pm accompanied by a cupcake demonstration with Handi at Kinokuniya Bookshop.

So if you’re in town head on in to meet the guys and not to mention taste some of our delicious vanilla cupcakes (all in the name of the food festival of course!)

With the party season upon us, it’s been pretty crazy in here (yes more than usual!) and the guys have been hard at work to create some amazing special event cakes recently.

The gliteratti were out in full force at the very glamorous Tesutti Fashion Awards which Planet Cake were delighted to help celebrate recently

Followed by this amazing 1920’s inspired Madhatter which we created specially for Stephanie Rice’s gangster-themed 21st birthday party.

In keeping with the party theme, here are a few more standouts from this month…hmmm could be a bit of a theme emerging here…

This stunning creation for a lucky fashionista went down an absolute treat, with one guest even mistaking it for the real deal!

For anyone who missed Handi’s flirt with fame on the wedding special of Masterchef (shame on you) never fear, as you can catch him this Saturday morning at 8.10 on Saturday Disney, Channel 7 taking part in a whole different style of competition!

Another HUGE week coming up with launches, demonstrations, Melbourne courses, and most importantly of course….cakes, cakes and more cakes! There are some seen-to-be-believed creations coming up this week, so watch this space.

Until next week

Hi Guys,

I know, I know we’ve been a little slack with our Melbourne blog of late, but to all our friends in the Garden State I promise we haven’t forgotten you!

Last month Paris our favourite Melbourne gals Fran and Rouvelee at the Royal Melbourne Show. Not only were we sponsors and exhibitors this year but Fran walked away with 3rd place for her beautiful Madhatter. The day was a HUGE success and we were just blown away by the support of all our Melbourne friends. The guys worked unbelievably hard but it was worth every second and we can’t wait to come back next year!

And now the news you have all been waiting for…drum roll please…..our Melbourne and Brisbane 2010 class dates are now online! In the usual Planet Cake style things are only going to get bigger and better and we have introduced a bigger selection and more of them! Be sure to get in early for all February classes as they’re sure to book our quickly. In Brisbane we have secured a brand new venue, The Bread House in Spring Hill and we can’t wait to head north and check out all the talent in Brissie.

Next week will see our last trip to Melbourne for the year, where Fran will be joined by Jessica for the first time. All those of you already booked in for October are in for an absolute treat!

Hi All,

Yesterday while standing in the Post Office I was hit squarely in the forehead with the realisation that we are indeed heading into the silly season as I found myself surrounded by Christmas cards! Has it really been almost a year since our last taste of Chrissie pudding and trifle?! I really should have been more aware as things are getting delightfully crazy here at Planet Cake as the party season hots up with lots of exciting events on the horizon.

In the last week we helped the team from Dry July celebrate their $1.26 million raised this year:

Here are some other creations from this week which have made some beautiful brides and lucky little ones very happy:

In other exciting news, it is October at last which means we are only weeks away from our final appearance in Melbourne for the year! After the success of the Melbourne Show last month, we can’t wait to get back down there and check out the new talent with Basics 101, 102, 103 the one and only Madhatter course as well as Sugar Flowers and Bride and Groom Figurines….phew. For those of you who missed out this year, never fear we are in the final stages of confirming our 2010 dates which will be up on the website and open for enrolment very soon!! Be sure to join us on twitter to be the first in the know with all course info.

Wishing you all a fabulous long weekend, I know I will be cosying up somewhere warm with a nice hot choccie (and some cake of course) and working on that Christmas wish list!

Hi All!

Thea here, you new resident Planet Cake blogger, here to deliver fresh from the horses mouth all the behind the scenes goss, glamour and sugar from the world of cake decorating.

What with all our jetsetting, celeb appearances it's been a while since we've had a chance to fill you in, so...deep breath, here we go...

After the champagne and glamour come down from our glitzy awards night, we launched ourselves straight back into the thick of it beginning with this gob-smacking cake by Margie and Anna Maria to help NIDA celebrate their 50th Birthday gala. This was a feat of cake engineering, and (call me a little bias here) but this has to be one of the most spectacular Madhatter's ever created!

Next up Paris and her team of "Spice Girls" wowed the crowds at the Cake Decorators Association of NSW, before exhibiting at the Ultimate Wedding Planers Party, where we were able to catch a sneak preview of some up and coming wedding trends (watch this space guys, this Summer's trends are going to be amazing!)

There have been some really exciting cakes this month including a monumental six-tier Wedgewood which filled the bellies (and hips) of over 600 guests, cupcakes for The Morning Show's Kylie Gillies to celebrate her appearance in the finals of Dancing With The Stars:

The last week has been pretty crazy in here with the Planet Cake team all over the country! Paris has secured us a great venue in Brisbane before headingto Melbourne where along with Fran and Rouvelee they represented Planet Cake at the Royal Melbourne Show where we were also sponsers this year. It was a great weekend, and our guys were met with a fantastic reception, and our very own Fran won third place with her gorgeous Madhatter

Lastly I'd like to finish up with a few lovely words from one of our very good friends here at Planet Cake, Julie who completed several of our classes. Julie we have loved having you here and would be extremely proud to call your amazing wedding cake one of our own!:

"I just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to all of you and let you know lucky I am to have been able to make the journey through the Planet Cake world...The journey has now turned into an obsession, as the realisation hits, that my work is changing. My confidence is growing. My attitude is different. All this has come about, as I watch and learn through every course that I take...While creating this cake I remember each lesson I have had, and the words of encouragement given, and am grateful for the role each of you has played in my Cake Journey".

FOUNDATION CLASS JULY 09

Congratulations to our July Foundation Class, this course is held for 5 intensive days, students are required to complete Basics 101 - 103 as well as other modules including, piping, baking and modeling. Most of our students have ambitions to become commercial cake decorators and I think they have every chance of giving PC a run for our money, these are spectacular results, congratulations guys I would be thrilled if a Planet Cake trainee produced this quality of work!

Planet Cake Update - Week Ending 11.07.09

On Thursday night Planet Cake had our annual party

Here we all are celebrating, Planet Cake just keeps growing and growing!

Well besides our party being the biggest news this week, Greg Cleary has been here teaching his ‘Perfect Peony’ workshops with AM facilitating, which have both sold out! He is half way through the second workshop now with a dynamic group of students, who are doing brilliantly and we are expecting really sensational results at the end. Check out Linda Harden, she is just a one woman cake machine. Greg teaches so thoroughly and brilliantly in his on unique way, I already have a list of people who want to do another workshop with him, he really is the best and I love having him at Planet Cake, greg has hinted that his next PC workshop will be all about ROSES!

Margie has been up to her old tricks again, slacking off this week and creating these disgusting cakes, I mean who wouldn’t be embarrassed…..I am going to have to have a word with her, she wins the award and now this, what next?

I will leave you with Antony and my chihuahua Minky (don't worry shes not allowed in the kitchen) Have a great week!

Planet Cake Update - Week Ending 04.07.09

Greg Cleary will be arriving this week for 2 x back to back 3 day sugar flower workshops, his facilitator will be the lovely Anna Maria Roche and the workshops are booked out. It is so lovely to have such a dear friend return to Planet Cake, I personally cannot wait for the workshops to begin!

Margie created an amazing birthday cake this week for Spice News ~ great work by Margie and a seriously impressive cake

I would like to introduce our latest casual staff member Stuart Girling, Stuart started as a Facilitator on Sunday assisting Jessica with her Basics 102 class, he did a fabulous job and will be facilitating many more classes in the future, great work Stuart, welcome aboard! Stuart has been decorating for well over a year he has a history as a Chef and we were introduced to Stuart when he attended the Foundation workshop last year, he has a great eye and unique creative perspective, I am confident he will become a valuable addition to our team.

I would like to give a special thank you Anna Maria in the last 2 weeks she has taught and 3 new workshops and the Madhatter, these are all at our most advanced level for our most advanced students, she not only performed very well but her workshops in terms of design, timing and outcomes were spot on, thank you very much Anna Maria, I have already started receiving feedback from delighted students and I am sure there will be much more, to my knowledge there is no decorating school in the world that is pumping our this level of complexity and quality with such incredible results, I feel exceptionally proud. I would also like to compliment our students who really stepped up to the plate and attempted their workshops with the creative and professional attitude required at this level of cake decorating, the results speak for themselves, and in their own right were exceptionally good and will become positive advocates for our craft.

Basics Masters – Topsy Turvey

Basics 109 – Madhatter

Finally the week ended with one of my most memorable occasions at Planet Cake thus far as Norita Abdullah and Linda Harden graduate from the Basics Series, completing every single one of the 10 workshops to become Planet Cake Master’s, this effectively means they have received training for every modern cake shape with exception or the hexagon.

Have a great week everyone, I very much look forward to an exciting week ahead!

Morning Show

Another birthday cake for the Channel 7, Morning Show to celebrate their 2nd birthday by Margie,

Featuring figurine hosts Kylie & Larry blowing out the Channel 7 candle (stroke of genius Margie)

Planet Cake Week Ending 27.06.08

We have had a very busy week at Planet Cake with the Basics series coming to conclusion after teaching all month, we have had students with us from all over Australia and Singapore producing some of the best cakes I have seen in a long time, I am really confident that these students will be going back to their own businesses and taking cake decorating to a new level - great stuff!

Its a WRAP - Planet Cake's first Basics 107 class graduates with some amazing Wrap Cakes, this class teaches students how to construct cover and decorate an inverted cake, they also made their own sugar flowers - no mean feat and they pulled it off brilliantly with Anna maria Roche Teaching!

Norita & Linda complete Basics 108 with Anna Maria

We will have an amazing week coming up as we climax with the Basics series (101 to Masters) and we have 2 students completing Masters who will have completed every single workshop in the series, I feel so emotional about this I could blub. This week they are learning Basics 109 (the Madhatter) and Masters (the topsy turvy)photos will be on the way soon.

P.S. I forgot about this gorgeous cake by Margie last week, how sweet is this?
